Little City Used Book Sale 2009

The Little City Foundation Used Book Sale, the largest event of its kind in Illinois, will take place June 5-14 at Westfield Old Orchard in Skokie.

The Book Sale, which celebrates its 51st year, typically draws more than 7,000 shoppers with its more than 200,000 used books in 70 subject categories. In an effort to attract all bargain shoppers, not just book collectors, Little City has increased its offering of comic books, DVDs, CDs and vinyl records. Events such as Senior Citizens’ Day, Children’s Day and Bargain Weekend also have been added to appeal to a wider audience.

“The Used Book Sale has had a loyal following since it was founded as the Brandeis Book Sale more than half a century ago. With the troubled economy this year, we expect that people will be more bargain-hungry than ever,” said Shawn Jeffers, Executive Director of Little City. “We’ve brought in a more diverse mix of merchandise, so not only will everyone be able to get a great buy, but they’ll also be able to help raise money for a worthy organization, Little City Foundation.”

Senior Citizen’s Day is scheduled for June 10, Children’s Day is June 11, and Bargain Weekend is June 13 -14. Admission to the event is free, except on opening night, Friday, June 5, when a $10 donation is charged.

Hours for the event are as follows:
Friday, June 5: 5 PM – 10 PM ($10, children under 10 free)
